SGPC Panel On Rahul Gandhi’s Currency Remarks: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) took strong cognizance of the recent comments made by the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, in Parliament and accused him of linking the ‘Abhay Mudra’ with the ideology of Guru Nanak Dev. Along with this, the SGPC also ordered to stop any artist or actor from doing videography for their promotion in the Golden Temple complex.
In a statement, the SGPC said, “Rahul Gandhi, while referring to Guru Nanak, said that the image of Guru Sahib shows Abhaya Mudra, which is completely wrong. The resolution clarified that Guru Sahib did not recognize any such posture or posture. He only taught to connect with one ‘Akal Purakh’.”
‘Don’t become a part of politics without knowing anything’
Taking strong cognizance of Rahul Gandhi’s comments in Parliament on the philosophy and image of Guru Nanak Dev, the SGPC said that the holy Gurbani and the teachings of the Gurus should not be made a part of political debate without full information. In the resolution passed in this regard, it was said that often the basic principles of the Gurus and the meaning of the holy Gurbani are also misinterpreted by political people, which hurts the sentiments of the Sikhs.
Resolution passed by both houses of Parliament
Through the resolution, the SGPC appealed to the Lok Sabha Speaker and the Rajya Sabha Chairman to ensure that no one’s religious sentiments are hurt during the proceedings of Parliament. In fact, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, while speaking during the debate on the motion of thanks on the President’s address on July 1, had quoted Prophet Muhammad and said that the Quran talks about fearlessness.
He had said that when hands are raised in “dua”, a kind of “abhaya mudra” can also be seen. He had mentioned Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Christianity, Buddhism and Jainism by holding pictures of Lord Shiva, Guru Nanak and Jesus Christ to underline the importance of fearlessness.
“These actions are unforgivable.”
SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami said that every religious place has its own rules and deliberate actions are not forgivable.
